About this list

For each of these places a page says that anyone may come, or that visitors are welcome. In the evening, Kōenji Chess Club at The Den asks only an entry fee and a drink, the Tuesday chess and shogi party in Kanda-Ogawamachi is free with one drink, and Tokyo Check Mates welcomes guests at its Wednesday games in Shibuya. Yokohama Chess Club needs no sign-up for its Saturday meetings, and Chofu Chess Club is open to all at Acros.

University circles at Science Tokyo, Keio and the University of Tokyo accept visitors, Shimokitazawa and Bashamichi hold free street chess days, and Chiba Chess Festa in Kashiwa is open to anyone. Chofu Chess Club asks 300 yen and nothing from junior high school pupils and younger, and Yokohama Chess Club 1,500 yen a meeting; the other fees are on each card.
