About this list
These classes are described by their own pages as suitable for people who do not yet know the moves. Yomiuri Culture Ebisu runs an introductory chess course of six lessons over three months, on the second and fourth Monday morning, that starts from the names and moves of the pieces; a trial lesson is possible. Shogi Chess Frontier in Okusawa has a Tuesday evening chess class for adults besides its first-chess classes for children.
For children, Dream AcademiA in Higashi-Azabu has a beginner class for those who cannot yet play, Kspace in Shirokanedai takes four- to seven-year-olds, and Tokyo Bilingual Chess School runs Chess for Rookies on Sunday mornings in Ōsaki. In Yokohama, every regular meeting of Yokohama Chess Club starts with a half-hour beginners' lecture.
