Clubs in the Tokyo area that organise rated tournaments 6

About this list

Some Tokyo clubs are known less for a weekly evening than for the tournaments they put on. Akabane Chess Club runs a numbered series of FIDE rated rapid tournaments in Kita ward halls such as Akabane Kaikan and Hokutopia, and it hosted the Northern Tokyo Chess Championship. Nakano Chess Club holds the Western Tokyo championships in the Nakano ward office, and Machida Chess Club organises a summer rapid open and a Silver Week open in Machida halls.

Outside Tokyo, Kawasaki Chess Club organised the Kanagawa Chess Championship at a district centre in Tsurumi ward, Yokohama, and Chiba Chess Club ran the Chiba Chess Championship in Kashiwa. Divine Chess Gurukul in Edogawa held blitz, rapid and classical events in 2025 and is still on the federation's club list, though no event of its own has been found for 2026. Entry rules, rating and fees are on each organiser's notice.
